Tuckahoe State Park... So close, though SEEMINGLY far

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

First trip of the season.

Tuckahoe State Park, Eastern Shore, Maryland.

A short drive away, but far enough to disconnect for a couple days.

If you like the woods, then this is the place. The loops were full of well established trees and wild life. A few nice walking trails were well laid out around the park.

Really liked our site.

The shale tent area was very level.

The picnic table and fire ring were both clean, intact and well maintained.

Ample distance between sites.

Bathhouse was clean and in working order. The park also had covid procedures to follow re use of the bathhouse.

Time it right and you will be the only one there.

A few of my equipment staples.

The foldable grate; to use instead of the one provided (as I know where my grate has been and what's been on it).

Cast iron grill/griddle, groovy on one side, smooth on the other. It can handle the high fire heat and is durable. A must have.

Two burner cooker. Awesome unit, comes with a case that has a side pocket for fuel.

First night, burger night.

Turkey Ranch Burgers, a Q&W Favorite.

Grilled local corn. If you soak before grilling, water gets into the husk and helps steam the corn.

How do you smores? Slow roasted or quick char...

J is more of a get in for the quick char. I'm in it for the slow roast. Perfectly browned consistently around the mallow, toasted gooeyness, sitting perfectly on your chocolate and graham build, enables the chocolate to melt evenly. Mmmmm.

However you smores, as long as it has the three basic ingredients, it's the right way!

Busy playing around the camp ground; Q&W are always hungry. So, I set up a beans and franks station, this way my campers can eat whenever they feel the need.

Hot Candy Pocket.

This is a fun campsite dessert for the kids. Using a grilled cheese maker/pie iron.

Butter each side of the iron and use Pillsbury croissant dough for the crust.

Roll out the dough and separate it into 4 squares. Add your favorite candy bar, the one used in the pocket shown here is a Caramelo bar. We also use Milky Way and Snickers. All good options.

Need to be a little patient with this. If it cooks to fast it can burn.

Using the infrared thermometer, find an area around the fire that is around 350 degrees.

I have found that it cooks in 24 mins turning it over every 4 minutes, lightly browned on both sides. Yum.

Activities.

Tuckahoe offers some cool activity areas scattered around the park for Q&W to burn off some energy (and the sugar load from the Hot Candy Pockets). Some were within walking distance from our campsite; others a short drive away.

There was a decent sized lake; perfect for kayaking and floating around. Tuckahoe also has cabins for rent, for those who may prefer a wooden shelter.

Walk in the woods.

The boys and I out walking one of the trails. A quiet peaceful trail,... until Q&W hit it.

Our last night around the fire. What a glow. We enjoyed Tuckahoe and will definitely be back.

Thanks for reading, more to come...
